Embracing the September Shift: How to Ease Back into Routine Without the Overwhelm

September 10, 20242 min read

Ah, September. It’s that time of year again—the seasons shift, routines return, and it’s back to school, back to work, and back to life. Funny enough, while most people talk about January as the time for new beginnings, I’ve always felt that the real reset happens in September.

Clean Kitchen

This year, I approached summer with a lot more grace. We spent a lot of time at the trailer, and instead of feeling the pressure to keep everything perfect at home, I let it go. The mess, the to-do lists—they were all waiting, but I chose to enjoy the present moment. And it was so worth it.

Now, as we move into fall, I find myself ready for structure again. Normally, as a summer lover, I resist this transition, but this year, I’m embracing it. I’m starting with small, simple changes—like clearing my kitchen counters (though I got a little too excited and gave the dogs haircuts, which left my clean counters covered in dog hair… lesson learned!). 🐾

But here’s the thing: I know myself. I tend to go all in—gung-ho, cleaning and organizing everything at once, only to burn out a few weeks later. So, this time, I’m trying something different. I’m breaking it down into smaller tasks and focusing on sustainability rather than perfection. One room or task at a time, and I’ll be sharing my progress in my Facebook group—come join us if you haven’t already!

If you're struggling with routines or feeling overwhelmed by all the "shoulds," remember, it’s okay to let some things slide. Life doesn’t have to be a constant hustle, and you don’t have to do it all. Setting boundaries and tuning into what you truly want is key.

If this sounds like something you could use some support with, I’m here for you. Coaching can help uncover what’s really going on, so if you’re ready for a little guidance, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Let’s navigate this season together—because life doesn’t have to be hard, and with a little help, we can make it easier and more rewarding.

Until next time, Alison 🌿
